Biografía

Andrea Slachevsky, neurologist from the University of Chile, PhD in Neuroscience with specialization in Neuropsychology at the École doctorale Cerveau-Cognition-Comportement, Pierre et Marie Curie University, and Associated Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile.

She is Deputy director of the Center for Geroscience, Brain Health And Metabolism (GERO, its acronym in Spanish), director of the Memory and Neuropsychiatric Clinic (CMYN, its acronym in Spanish), Department of Neurology of the Hospital del Salvador and Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile. Principal Investigator in Chile of RED-LAT (the multi-partner consortium to expand dementia research in Latin America (ReDLat) . Member of the  Board of the GBHI and Scientific Program Committee (SPC) Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® (AAIC®). She funded and is the vice president of the Corporacion Profesional de Alzheimer y Otras Demencias (COPRAD, its acronym in Spanish), a non-profit, non-governmental organization devoted to raising public awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia in Chile.

She has dedicated her career to improving the medical care of people with dementia and to research and teaching in neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry and dementia disorders. She has been at the forefront of raising public awareness on dementias in Chile.

Her research encompasses neuropsychology and functionality in dementia and healthy cognitive aging, development of new methods to assess executive function-based on serious game, burden and cost of dementia. She has written or coedited four books, namely “Enfermedad de Alzheimer y otras demencias. Manual para familiares y cuidadores ”, “Neuropsicología. Bases neuronales de los procesos mentales”, “Tratado de Neuropsicología” (Handbook of Neuropsychology) and (two editions), “Cerebro Cotidiano” (Lom) y Manual de buenas prácticas para el diagnóstico de demencias (Ibañez A, Slachevsky A, Serrano C. (2020)  Banco Interamericano del Desarrollo. Fundacion Ineco. 2020.)
