Data Scientist Position in Brain Health and Exposome Data Analysis

11 junio, 2026 BrainLat Investigación

The Latin American Brain Health Institute (BrainLat) at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez is opening a call for a data scientist to join its interdisciplinary research team.

The position is aimed at candidates interested in contributing to research at the intersection of brain health, data science, epidemiology, geospatial data, omics,
biomarkers, and social and environmental exposome research. The selected researcher will support ongoing projects focused on understanding how biological,
social, and environmental factors shape brain health and brain aging in Latin America.

Position overview

The selected candidate will contribute to the identification, extraction, harmonization, and analysis of large-scale geospatial datasets linked to participants’ residential zip codes or equivalent geographic units. Using these location-based identifiers, the candidate will derive and integrate social and environmental exposome indicators across Latin American countries. These indicators may include access to green areas, basic services, sanitation, environmental conditions, safety, social development, infrastructure, healthcare access, education, and other contextual determinants of brain health.

The role will involve identifying relevant open data sources, extracting aggregated indicators at different geographic levels, harmonizing data across countries and
administrative units, documenting data sources and processing decisions, and supporting the integration of these indicators into BrainLat’s research platforms.
The selected candidate will also contribute to statistical designs and data analysis workflows involving epidemiological, clinical, biomarker, omics, neuroimaging, and
population-based data. The role includes participation in scientific publications, collaborative research projects, and the development of new research questions
within BrainLat’s lines of work.

Candidate profile

BrainLat is seeking applicants with the following profile:

  • Training or professional experience in data science, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational social science, geography, environmental sciences,
neuroscience, biomedical sciences, or related fields.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets, open data sources, geospatial or administrative data, epidemiological data, omics, biomarkers, or brain health-
    related datasets.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience in data cleaning, harmonization, reproducible workflows, statistical modeling, and documentation of analytical pipelines.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research on brain health, aging, dementia, biomarkers, omics, exposome research, and population studies.
  • Ability to work in collaborative scientific environments and contribute to international research projects.

We offer

  • A competitive salary.
  • The opportunity to join an interdisciplinary and international research environment.
  • Participation in projects focused on brain health, aging, dementia, biomarkers, omics, exposome research, and population studies.
  • Collaboration with researchers and institutions advancing brain health research in Latin America.
  • Opportunities to contribute to scientific publications, data infrastructure, and new research lines within BrainLat.
