Biografía

Josefina holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience and two MSc in Neuropsychology and Behavioral Neurology and Brain and Cognition.

As a complex system, the human brain is organized into large-scale networks. In order to support cognitive functions, these networks need to flexibly adjust their functional connectivity to integrate relevant information towards a goal-directed behavior. Josefina has a keen interest in understanding the general principles underlying brain function to elucidate how the mind emerges from the brain’s functional organization.

Her research aims to characterize the fundamental biophysical mechanisms and principles underlying intrinsic brain states and higher cognitive functions in health and their breakdown in disease. For this purpose, she combines behavioral and neuroimaging data analysis with in silico generative mathematical modeling.

Josefina’s approach will help identify and link brain states, in terms of large-scale cortical network dynamics, with states of mind— potentially offering biomarkers for diagnosis and enabling novel therapeutic interventions to treat dysfunctional mental states.
