Abstract

Circulating cell-free nucleic acids have emerged as a promising methodology to study many diseases, and in particular, represent a unique opportunity for dementia research. This project will combine characterize cell-free mRNA (cf-mRNA) expression and artificial intelligence methods to data from Latin American
patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) from BrainLat in Chile. The aim is to discover new blood-based biomarkers and computational predictive models for the diagnosis of these conditions. Notably, this will be the first-ever study to investigate cf-mRNA biomarkers in FTD and the first to do it for AD in a Latin American cohort. The seed grant will enable us to establish feasibility and gather preliminary data for a larger funding application in the future.
