Cristian Ávila-Rincón is a PhD student in Neuroscience at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia). His research focuses on understanding how the social exposome influences brain health and biological aging through epigenetic mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on DNA methylation. His doctoral research focuses on dementia in Latin America by integrating social exposures with epigenetic biomarkers to better understand the biological pathways linking social inequalities to brain health. Previously, during his master’s degree, he investigated the relationship between exposure to violence related to the Colombian armed conflict and epigenetic markers.
